Rowing Membership Off-Peak Rowing

CRC, Recreational Rowing (Off Peak Rowing Membership)

Christchurch Rowing Club has a large and thriving recreational rowing program of regular weekly outings, tours and events.  We offer weekday and weekend outings using our Swift Touring boats both of which are currently rigged as quads.

Rowing Outings - Weekday and Weekend

Our morning weekday rowing outings run from Monday to Friday at scheduled times of 9am and 10am.  The weekly schedule is determined by rower’s availability, but on average we arrange 4 weekday outings per week.

Weekend outings are arranged on Friday evenings (summer months) and Saturday and Sunday mornings which are again dependant on rower availability.

These outings are adapted to the crews’ ability and goals but are always fun and friendly.

Coaching

Weekday outings have the additional benefit of a Coach and are a great opportunity for recreational rowers to continually improve their technique with all the benefit of current coaching methods.  There is an additional cost of £5 per seat, per outing, which is ‘pay as you go’.

Coxing

Learning to cox with a recreational crew is ideal as recreational rowers tend to have a wealth of experience, plus for weekday outings there is a Coach alongside.  You can follow the Victoria Robinson Accredited Coxswain Training Program which provides a framework for learning about how to cox plus practical assessment and coaching on the water.

Out and About – Tours and more…

Recreational rowing is very popular all around the UK and we often have the opportunity to either visit or host other clubs and their recreational rowers.  This is a great way to meet like-minded people and row on different waters and boat types.  We also encourage rowers to take part in organised recreational rowing events including Head of the Dart, Tour of the Norfolk Broads and Monster the Loch to mention a few.

Membership Types

The membership type for recreational rowing is called Off-Peak membership.  Off Peak rowing gives you access to weekday and weekend outings outside of the busy boating times.

There are two levels:

Level 1 offers members the opportunity to row on the water once a week.

Level 2 gives you access to multiple outings per week and access to the gym equipment and small boats (subject to experience).
